Atwell places third at national shooting event
Several members of the Howard County Izaak Walton League’s “Young Guns” were afforded an opportunity to compete in the Scholastic Clay Target National Shooting event, held in Ohio’s Cardinal Center.
Taking part in the Ladies Intermediate Division, Lauren Atwell finished in third place with a total score of 125. She competed against nearly 3,000 other students.
A freshman at Northwestern High School, Atwell only began shooting last March before making her rapid climb up the ladder of shotgunning skills. “She tried normal girl stuff like ballet, gymnastics and art,” said her mother Kim Atwell. “But it has become quickly obvious shooting is where her heart is and we will continue to encourage her.” We wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors.
