If you’re looking for high-performance, high-end hearing protection for your hunting and shooting activities, we have found a perfect fit (pun intended): SoundGear Hunting IIC in-ear sound protection.

Simply put, these tiny earplugs look like a hearing aid that sits inside the ear canal and not only reduce loud noises by up to 25 decibels but actually enhance things like conversation and birds.

We have now used them on several occasions ranging from informal plinking to a high-intensity pistol class, a round of sporting clays and even a product-testing day that included calibers up to and including the mighty .338 Lapua.

The Hunting IIC worked as advertised. They were comfortable to wear for over 8 hours over the course of five days and greatly enhanced the shooting experience. We loved how they didn’t interfere with cheek weld on a long weapon.

The hearing protectors use standard inexpensive hearing aid batteries that are available nearly anywhere. There is no on-off switch but we found one battery lasts about seven days with no problems.

The only limitation was during the product test event that some shooting took place under a metal-roofed firing line. Such an arrangement increases noise levels significantly and as we were firing .223 rifles and pistols along with the impressive .500 Smith & Wesson revolver, we need to put on ear muff sound protectors over the in-ear models to continue shooting. However, given the extreme conditions, we can’t fault SoundGear.

The only other downside is the MSP of $399 (around $300 “on the street”). However, if you shoot a lot, especially in a training environment, or want both hearing enhancement and protection while hunting, we heartily recommend SoundGear.
