Zippo 4-in-1 Woodsman Review
Overview - The Zippo 4-in-1 Woodsman promises four tools in one. While obviously a camp axe, it is also a mallet, stake puller, and bow saw. At the core, a full steel shaft supports the ingenious, ergonomic design. Versatile and lightweight, the 4-in-1 Woodsman is a camp tool, survival tool, or a multi-function tool for your backyard.
MSRP - $79
Market Price - $50
Hits - All four functions work as promised. It cuts, saws, hammers and pulls. Swinging a camp axe for extended periods of time isn’t exactly fun, but the lightweight construction and design really do limit arm fatigue. It’s remarkably compact in its design, but the performance doesn’t suffer. Well thought out, well executed design. Misses - The blade storage area/stake puller at the bottom of the handle sometimes wants to flip open, or start to while using it as an axe. I've not had it come all the way open, but it has moved enough to annoy me. The handle itself is a little slick, some texturing or rubberizing would help the grip feel more secure.
Surprising feature - Initially I was skeptical of the orange plastic blade cover/handle for use as a bow saw, but it is remarkably comfortable in hand, and durable. I didn't expect it to last.
Parting thoughts - A lot of upside with this tool. It's compact but effective, as a survival tool, camping tool, or addition to a bug-out-bag, it would tough to beat. Plus, when compared to single-function camp axes on the market, the value is undeniable.
